What can we say – Mardi Gras is a real trooper.
Mardi is a 19-year-old, well-travelled puss we met at Post Entry Quarantine (PEQ) out at Mickleham. Mardi started adding frequent flyer points to her pet passport back in 2019 when she made the long flight to Canada from Australia with her loving owners Scott & Corey.
At 19 years of age, an incredible feat to start with, Mardi made the return trip back to Australia on the 2nd of August 2021 going straight into Quarantine (PEQ) out at Mickleham for 10 days.
Mardi had not seen her owners since October 2020. She had to remain in Canada for six months due to quarantine requirements after having her rabies vaccination & RNAT. While she was waiting for flights back to Australia, tests revealed that her kidneys weren’t working as well as they should be. Her treatment involved giving her fluids daily under the skin to help take some strain off her kidneys with flushing out toxins. Upon arriving at PEQ the fluids were continued by one of our staff members.
Mardi’s exit date came where she was due to fly home to Brisbane to catch up with her owners. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 her flight was cancelled and Mardi had no where to go. We took her into our clinic and continued with the fluids until she was due to fly out in another week. Guess what……that flight was cancelled also. We transferred her to Cottage Kennels where she was rewarded with a Deluxe suit for accommodation for a week. While in Cottage our staff member continued with giving her fluids.
We are happy to say that on the 26th August 2021 Mardi Gras was finally flying home to her elated owners. Mardi is a great cat, very affectionate with an endearing personality. I am sure Mardi won’t want to use her frequent flyers points and is happy to stay sunning herself in the window of her Brisbane apartment.
The perseverance and commitment that her owners Corey & Scott have shown is a credit to their loyalty and trying to repay Mardi Gras for her love over many years. Happy retirement Mardi Gras.
